LAHORE (Dunya News) - Gang leaders of begging mafia will be sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment across Punjab. 

The Punjab Home Department has taken a stern action against begging mafia and announced that those involved in henious crime will be penalised. 

Begging mafia’s gang leaders will be sentenced to 10-year imprisonment along with Rs2 million fine. 

Perpetrators will face additional three years of imprisonment in case of not paying fine. 

According to spokesperson, the department has forwarded the amendment to new law for cabinet approval.

The department spokesperson asserted that forced begging by children, women and old people was a non-bailable and serious offence under new law. 

It is pertinent to note that Punjab Chef Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered crackdown on begging mafia. 

The department has ordered construction of rooms within Punjab's jails to house beggars.
